SPAN has always been deeply committed to being a good and responsible corporate with adherence to best business practices. Going beyond business to enrich the quality of life of the community in which we operate, SPANites have initiated several educational and local welfare programs which align our business values and behavior with the expectations and needs of stakeholders.
SPAN is working closely with EDUCAIT a Non Profit Charitable Trust to channelize our CSR initiatives. EDUCAIT manages a wide array of CSR programs that have been identified to help underprivileged children gain access to quality education & infrastructure in local primary schools and Government run schools under the Private Public partnership program.
SPAN along with EDUCAIT visited the Flood hit areas in Karnataka within 3 days and helped in rehabilitation activities of the affected families. The team helped in rehabilitating three families, distributing books and uniforms to two schools and donations to another trust for rebuilding a school. SPAN CSR Team also arranged for Food grains in Kurnool district through trusted channels and conducted Eye Camp and Spectacles Distribution for senior citizens jointly with Narayana Nethralaya, a leading hospital chain in India.
The Trust has adopted a Government Primary school for its upkeep. The school hosts 300+ children in Grades 1-7. The school lacks some basic amenities like clean toilets and drinking water facilities. To address the needs for basic infrastructure the trust has helped and funded the school with the following activities:
Apart from this the trust also helps school authorities by funding needy students after assessing parents ability to fund, student profile check and School’s recommendations. Apart from the above the trust has plans to conduct Annual Sports days, Cultural days and repeat health and eye camps each year.
SPAN identified a Government Primary school in the neighborhood that genuinely required infrastructure support. A couple of SPANites visited the school, made observations and met the staff of the school. The visit clearly underlined the need for electrical wiring in the classrooms. In order to find out the feasibility and cost of providing this SPAN electricians also visited the school. To raise the funds SPAN organized an interesting and a very successful "Taare Zameen Par” painting competition where children of SPAN Employees participated. Later an exhibition was organized and the paintings were auctioned to parents to raise the funds.
Our old clothes now have new shelf to be shared. SPAN CSR group at SPAN created an opportunity for all to extend our happiness to the less fortunate brothers and sisters by donating used/unused clothes which were in good condition. SPAN tied up with R K Foundation, Bangalore for helping us to deliver it to the right hands. This foundation has their own Clothes bank and they help the needy with these through the year (all age groups and genders). The board of trustees of R.K. Foundation greatly appreciated SPANites contribution for the 11 boxes of clothes that were contributed for the project. We plan to take this as an ongoing quarterly event.
With the year ending festive season in 2011, SPAN CSR group came up with a noble idea to spread SMILES & bring Joy to kids of Bidadi School. SPAN CSR Team ran a campaign to collect items which surely brings smile on little faces. The response was phenomenal and we were able to collect good number of items like Coloring book, activity books, writing & painting kits for students of the school.
Apart from the regular CSR initiatives a couple of small closed-circle fund raising activities were carried by SPANites, to help a few needy staff, in the last one year. The details of the instances are provided below.
